What is fingering weight?
Fingering weight (also called 4-ply or sock weight) is a fine yarn that typically knits at 7-8 stitches per inch on 2.25-3.5mm needles. It's incredibly versatile and perfect for detailed work.
Best projects for fingering weight:
- Shawls and wraps - the drape is unmatched
- Socks - classic fingering weight territory
- Lightweight sweaters - perfect for layering
- Baby garments - soft and gentle
- Colorwork projects - shows patterns beautifully
- Lace knitting - creates delicate, airy fabric
Care Instructions:
Most of our fingering weight yarns are hand-wash only to preserve the hand-dyed colors. Our non-superwash bases (Moherino, British Wool) require gentle handling but reward you with incredible texture and authentic wool character that improves with wear.
